Biography

Voyager Art and Tile is a ceramic studio located in Central Alberta since 1999
We are a private studio and not open to the public
Artists: Brian McArthur and Dawn Detarando

We run a full time studio, which produces Public Art and a variety of Decorative Tiles and House Numbers that are sold across Canada. Both, Brian and Dawn, have been traditionally schooled in the Fine Arts and have been working together as a team for over 12 years. Aside from the business, each of us in our own right is an individual artist who creates sculpture that is exhibited and collected.

We started our studio in 1999 in the back of a two-car garage after receiving our Master of Fine Arts Degrees at The Ohio State University. After an educational residency at the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works and a decision to follow our dreams of being full time artists, we took on our first Public Art Commission and developed a tile making business as a focus for making art. We took the following year off to build our beautiful art studio that now has the capability and space for the production of large brick sculpture, mosaics, decorative tiles, construction and welding. All surrounded by a beautiful piece of land that has a creek with lots of trees, many species of birds and wildlife that walk through all year.

We feel extremely fortunate to be making a living doing what we love. The hours are long but the rewards are far extending. For the business, we collaborate to make decorative ceramic works that reflects our sense of life and romance. We are inspired by our natural surroundings and produce work that is responsive and whimsical, combining interests of flora, fauna and history that is related to the rural and urban environments we experience.
